Shelter and protection of sloths, anteaters and armadillos
Green Heritage Fund Surinam, founded by Monique Pool, is an organisation that is committed to the protection of indigenous animals that are in distress due to de-forestation, traffic, urbanisation and human activities. The centre is known for its professional care and rehabilitation of sloths, anteaters and armadillos, animals that in Surinam often become injured or orphaned.
The team at GHFS works daily on rescues, medical care, intensive care, and monitoring of patients. intensive care and the monitoring of animals that after recovery are returned to their natural habitat. In addition the organisation plays a major role in education and awareness, in order to show how special and vulnerable these animals are.
Why this project is important
GHFS is one of the most important organisations in Suriname for the protection of unique forest animals. Thanks to their care and expertise, countless animals are given a second chance and awareness of the importance of nature conservation is growing.
