Shelter and rehabilitation for all native wild animals
The Surinam Wildlife Sanctuary is a new rescue and rehabilitation centre in Surinam that focuses on all native wild animals. Where existing shelter locations are mainly specialised in one species, this centre offer refuge to a wide range of animals, from capuchin monkeys and parrots to boas, sloths and other forest dwellers.
The centre was founded by Matthijs and Valeska Kuijpers, who are fully committed to protecting Surinams unique nature. Injured, orphaned or confiscated animals receive medical care, safe recovery and, where possible, a return to their natural habitat.
Why this project is important
The Suriname Wildlife Sanctuary provides an essential place for all wild animals that need help, and contributes to the preservation of the rich biodiversity of the Surinam rain forest.
