Umoya Khulula is a dedicated rehabilitation centre in South Africa that is committed to the rescue, restore and return of native wild animals. One of their most vulnerable patients is the pangolin – the most illegaly traded mammal ter world.
Pangolins are heavily affected by poaching because of their scales and meat. If they are saved from the illegal trade, they are often seriously traumatised, dehydrated and in bad health. At Umoya Khulula they get intensive care, adapted nutrition and cpomplete rest to to recover – with the goal: return to the wild.
In addition to pangolins the centre also cares for and takes in other wild animals, such as baboons, bush babies, porcupines and antelope. There is no tourism interaction; animals really take the center stage here.
Wings for Animals supports this special work with donations, medical aids and the donation of solar panels. Thanks to this sustainable solution the care for vulnerable animals can continue, even during power outages – which occur regularly in South Africa unfortunately.
