In the spring of 2018, rhino Lottie was found in Pilanesberg (South Africa) next to her deceased mother. Despite her trauma, little Lottie is doing well. All this thanks to the good care of The Rhino Orphanage!
In the meantime, a fun project has emerged for Wings for Animals: coordinating the transport of knitted and crocheted blankets by a group of women from all over the world called “Blankets for Baby Rhinos”. These blankets keep the rhino orphans warm at night and protect them from the sun during the day. To save costs, our dear colleagues transport blankets from the Netherlands or even from the United States (via our crew center) to the crew hotel in Johannesburg. There the blankets are collected by various (rhino) orphanages. In addition to blankets, the ladies of “Blankets for Baby Rhinos” make fun cuddly toys for the young animals of Solidearth Meerkat Rehab and Rescue. Moreover, their creations are sold and with the profit projects like this are supported. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this great project!
Besides the transport of the knitted blankets and animals we virtually adopted four baby rhinos; you can read all about this here.
