Background information about the Wings for Animals Foundation
In 2015, the foundation was founded by a number of animal lovers who worked at KLM as cabin crew, under the leadership of Annelies Moolenaar who is still the chairwoman today.
They saw the unique opportunities that their work presented by traveling extensively around the world, and the opportunities it presented to prevent and remedy animal suffering.
“As flight crew, we visit many countries where we see animal suffering up close. Because one is stronger together and has more knowledge, we joined forces.”
Wings for Animals aims to support small- to medium-sized projects worldwide that work for the welfare of animals. In addition, the foundation provides information to create awareness, thus preventing animal suffering.
Read below our policy plan, annual reports, our privacy policy, and, of course, who serves on the foundation’s board.
The Wings for Animals Team

Annelies Moolenaar
President and founder
To me animal welfare is very important. I try to help every animal in need that crosses my path, worldwide. Together we can do so much more, that’s why Wings for Animals was founded in 2015.

Jolande van den Broek
Board member and veterinarian
Since 2013 I have been working as a veterinarian, with a great preference for surgery. After a number of successful sterilisation campaigns I look forward to future projects together with Wings for Animals!

Jos Gielen
Treasurer and website administrator
Animals deserve our care, attention and protection. As a retired KLM Captain I am well aware of the fantastic job Wing for Animals does to ensure this. As treasurer and website admin I can contribute, even though I am not actively flying anymore.

Judith Linterman
Relief items and projects
Animals are dependent on us and at the mercy of the situations they find themselves in. That’s why I volunteer at Wings for Animals Foundation to help provide these animals with more hope. Become a donor or volunteer and help us in our fight for more awareness in animal welfare and support for organizations that work so hard for these defenseless animals!!

Ruud Wolf
Financial statements
I love supporting the people who are so concerned with improving animal welfare around the world. And so indirectly to be able to contribute a small part.

Vivian Verwey
Education
After working for KLM for almost 30 years, I consciously chose to become a volunteer at Wings for Animals. I have a great love for animals and nature and I believe in education and information of young people to gain more attention for other living beings and their vulnerability.Wings for Animals combines these insights, which is why I am proud to be part of this foundation!
Jo Claes
Communications & Activities coordinator
"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened " (Anatole France) The connection we can have with animals, as well as the need to stand up for them - because they often have no voice to advocate for themselves - is what drives me. The idea that somewhere in the world I can contribute to a moment of security for an animal, or ensure that it can go to sleep with a full stomach, motivates me again and again to dedicate myself to Wings for Animals. Together with a group of fantastic like-minded people. ❤
Ingemette Jepma
Project Manager
Since childhood, my heart has been with animals. Their purity and loyalty inspire me time and time again. Animals don't have a voice, but they have all the more feeling. I want to be the voice for animals in the world and volunteer for this wonderful foundation. I also want to inspire others and make them aware that we can make a difference in animal welfare.

The Wings for Animals Foundation was founded by 5 KLM cabin crew in November 2015.
From the first year , we can count on the support of (TV) vet Piet Hellemans, who lovingly helps us as an ambassador.
How do we achieve this?
- Donations of cash and relief items to benefit local projects
- Organising and carrying out sterilisation actions
- Information and education
- Transporting relief goods for and providing support work at destination at our projects
- Emergency response to (natural) disasters
The Wings for Animals Foundation is a non-profit organisation and therefore dependent on donations and gifts. The fact that we always strive for a positive and transparent way to show what we do, ensures that our social media pages and our website reach many people, which means that it is also a23> for the business community interesting to support us too . Of course there is appropriate exposure in return.
We spend the funds we receive through donations and gifts carefully. We only work with reliable local initiatives, which we visit in person. We contribute through financial support, the purchase and transport of resources, and collaboration with veterinarians. On our website and social media channels, you will find an overview of the projects and organisations we have supported to date.
In addition to many one-off projects, Wings for Animals has built up a relationship with various organisations over the years, which it supports on a regular basis.
Wings for Animals is recognised by the Dutch tax authorities as a “Public Benefit Organisation” (ANBI), which means that we meet certain quality and reliability requirements. This also has consequences for the deductibility of donations and grants from income tax. See below.
The board of the Wings for Animals Foundation consists of:
President: Annelies Moolenaar (cabin crew intercontinental flights)
Treasurer: Jos Gielen (retired airline captain)
Board member: Jolande van den Broek (veterinarian)
Note: The board and volunteers are not compensated for their time and efforts. All expenses are paid out of their own pockets.
Tax Authority / ANBI
Our foundation has been designated by the Dutch tax authorities as an ANBI, or ‘Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling’ (Public Benefit Organisation). The tax authorities check and assess a number of things to determine whether their strict requirements are met. These requirements include: being a non-profit organisation, serving the public interest for 90% of its activities, and having an ethical board. There must also be a reasonable relationship between the costs of acquiring donations and gifts, and the money that is ultimately spent on charity. Finally, the board and volunteers are not compensated for their time and efforts. All expenses are paid out of their own pockets.
In short, you know a foundation is trustworthy if it is an ANBI foundation.
Due to our status as an ANBI, donations to Wings for Animals are deductible from Dutch income tax. A regular donation is even fully deductible from income tax, without threshold. On this page you can read more about tax deductable donations and gifts.
Finally, a bequest or donation to an ANBI institution in a will is exempt from inheritance tax in the Netherlands.
