Behind the scenes at Wings for Animals, there’s always a lot going on. Supplies are collected, sorted and packed before making their way to animal organisations at our destinations. From food and medication to medical supplies, every suitcase can make a difference. Recently, our cockpit colleagues Froukje and Michelle brought much needed supplies to @suriname_wildlife_sanctuary. Specialised food and medical equipment were delivered for the animals in their care, including these beautiful birds. 🐦💙@asociacioncat.miau in Spain also received another shipment of supplies. Our project leader Arnold took them along and delivered everything safely to the shelter.A large part of what we bring with us is generously donated. Veterinarians provide us with medication and medical equipment, while @stichtingdierenlot, @wwarfoundation and @maxizoo.nl also support us with food and other essential supplies.Our colleague Jo took on the task of sorting and organising a large amount of donated medication. As you can see, it’s quite a job! By carefully checking and sorting everything, we can make sure we know exactly what can travel with us and where it is needed most.Once everything is sorted, the suitcases are packed and handed over to our crew members, who take them with them on their journeys. ✈️🌍It may happen behind the scenes, but every donation, every suitcase and every journey helps us support animals in need. 💙
🐘 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣 𝗠𝗔𝗗𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗜 — 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡www.petain.vg/arwFor nearly 𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, Madhuri (also known as Mahadevi) lived at a 𝗝𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵 in Kolhapur, India — a Jain religious institution, despite Jainism being founded on ahimsa: non-violence and compassion towards all living beings.After years of living chained and largely isolated, Madhuri showed severe signs of distress. She was finally moved to a sanctuary, where she could live in a more natural environment alongside other elephants.But then came the painful paradox.The Jain Math fought to have her returned, and the Supreme Court gave in…Just days ago, Madhuri was taken away from the sanctuary. She is now back in isolation and being used for religious ceremonies.A religious institution founded on the principle of non-violence fought to take an elephant away from sanctuary life and the company of other elephants, and succeeded.Madhuri deserves space, appropriate care, freedom of movement and the company of other elephants.
