Care for Wild envisions a future in which viable, free-living populations of black and white rhinos thrive in protected, vibrant ecosystems. We strive for a sustainable development model that empowers and engages rural communities in the conservation of endangered species and the overall biodiversity of our planet.
As “ecosystem engineers,” rhinos play a crucial role in preserving entire ecosystems and promoting biodiversity. To successfully release rhinos and other wild animals back into the wild under our care, these animals undergo a phased program and are released into healthy, protected ecosystems after rehabilitation.
Care for Wild’s dedicated rhino observers observe rhinos and collect valuable data on rhino behavior, wildlife activities and the ecology of their habitat. This comprehensive approach prioritizes the welfare of both rhinos and the ecosystem in which they live, recognizing the interconnectedness and interdependence between these magnificent creatures and their environment.
Wings for Animals has supported Care for Wild for many years by transporting goods from various countries to South Africa free of charge. These are often expensive or fragile materials such as drones, GoPro’s and orthopedic devices, which would otherwise have difficulty reaching their destination due to high transportation costs or corruption. Through our efforts, these resources arrive safely and provide direct help to the animals.
In addition to the transport, our crew also helps out at the shelter for a number of days: cleaning, preparing food and even feeding special animals such as small and large rhinos, pangolins and other wildlife. This cooperation is therefore not only practical, but also very personal and unforgettable.
