Compassion for all living beings
In the heart of Shanghai, a metropolis of millions, there is a special place where animals are not viewed as property, but as living beings that deserve protection and respect. Wàn FóGé (万佛阁), literally the Pavilion of the Ten ThousandBuddhas, is a Buddhist temple where compassion forms the foundation of everything they do.
In Buddhism, “ten thousand” symbolizes not only a large number, but above all, infinite compassion for all living beings. That philosophy comes to life here every day.
An animal ambulance from the temple
What makes Wàn Fó Gé so special is that the nuns don’t just focus on their spiritual lives. They also drive their own animal ambulance through Shanghai to rescue injured, sick, and abandoned animals.
The animals are taken to the temple, where they receive medical care, food, rest, and, above all, safety. For many of them, this place represents a second chance at life.
A safe haven
On the temple grounds, dogs, cats, and other animals find a place where they can recover from neglect, illness, or injury. The nuns and volunteers provide daily care with great dedication, treating every animal with the same love and attention.
Their work shows that animal welfare knows no bounds and that compassion is a universal language.
An inspiring example
Wàn Fó Gé impressively demonstrates how faith and animal welfare can go hand in hand. By actively rescuing animals, providing medical care, and giving them a safe place to live, the nuns are a source of hope for countless animals in need.
Wings for Animals is proud to support this special initiative and thereby contribute to their mission of giving vulnerable animals a better future.
