A New Chance for Animals That Have Been Through a Lot
Based in Madrid, Fundación Animal Rescue is dedicated to helping abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. From its large rehabilitation center, the organization primarily takes in dogs and cats that have often endured difficult pasts.
Here, they receive not only shelter but also medical care, good nutrition, rest, and the time they need to recover both physically and emotionally. When an animal is ready, the shelter works to find it a suitable and loving new home.
In addition, Fundación Animal Rescue is committed to education and raising awareness about animal welfare, and the organization also supports other, smaller animal rescue organizations in Spain.
The 23 Dogs of Las Almenas
One of the projects that particularly touched us was the rescue of 23 dogs from Las Almenas. The animals came from a puppy mill and had spent years primarily producing litter after litter. Proper care, socialization, and medical treatment were of secondary importance. After their rescue, the dogs were taken in by Fundación Animal Rescue. Many of them had medical issues and also had to learn that human hands can be a source of kindness. They received the treatment, rest, and rehabilitation they needed to eventually embark on a completely different life.
Wings for Animals helpt 🐾✈️
Wings for Animals supports Fundación Animal Rescue both financially and by helping to make concrete improvements to the shelter. For example, we helped improve the enclosures so that the animals have more shelter, privacy, and peace and experience less stress.
We also contributed to professional veterinary intake and transport modules, which allow sick, injured, and recovering animals to be cared for and transported more safely and hygienically. Thanks to support from the ABRI Foundation for Animals, we were able to implement key components of this aid.
Our Project Manager, Arnold Moolenaar, maintains personal contact with the foundation and visits the shelter in Madrid. This allows us to stay closely involved and know exactly where our help is needed most.
